| Tonight was the Relay for Life celebration at Chapin High School. I made a few observations:
1. It's pretty cool to do something for a good cause. 2. There are less than 20 non-white people living in Chapin, which is really strange. 3. Bagpipes which would have sounded awful anywhere else aren't really that bad at memorial events. 4. Playing soccer with kids is more fun for everyone if you let them win. 5. Someone at Lake Murray Presbyterian Church is pretty good at grilling hamburgers. 6. I still don't know the name of a good barbecue place in that town. 7. My co-workers are good company.
What I don't think I'll forget easily is a T-shirt I saw on one of the cancer survivors: Yes, these are fake. The real ones almost killed me.

| At first let me say I had no clue until someone I work with told me her kids were crazy about this Hannah Montana person. Now all of a sudden everyone is angry at her. Every conservative commentator is seething, "There goes another one of the people we trusted to teach our kids the right things."
= (The second picture is tacked on for comparison, because apparently, the first picture is supposed to be more offensive than the second one.)
TV commentators and parent groups concerned now that Vanity Fair is "sexualizing" a 15-year-old girl, but the fact of the matter is, this is not a sexual pose and it's obvious it was never intended to be seen that way. I know Americans are totally obsessed with nudity and the obscuration of nudity, cussing and the obscuration of cursing ... but there's got to be an end of this somewhere.
Seriously, I'm not morally outraged at this photo.
Follow up edit:: I read that one factor in the outrage may be the article Vanity Fair ran alongside the photograph. The "Hannah Montana" star cited the article as a reason for embarrassment. Perhaps that had something to do with the controversy in that it set the tune for people to see the photograph in a different way than "artsy" as the teenaged Miley Cyrus put it. (I haven't read the article and have no intention to.)
2nd Follow up edit:: Reduced the size of both pictures for those who may be offended. My main point in displaying them was that both show an equal amount of exposed flesh, so, what's the difference between the way she was pictured in Vanity Fair and the way she dresses from day to day? If parents want to be offended due to the first picture, why not be also offended at the second one?

"Two little sticks
They're made out of wood
And they help you
To pick up your lunch
Your lunch
And if you practice
Then you'd get good
And you'll tind you can pick up
A bunch to munch
Eat noodles with chopsticks
Eat dumplings with chopsticks
Eat sushi with chopsticks
That's fish!
Don't eat soup with your chopsticks
That's no good with chopsticks
And jello with slide off
Your dish
I eat with chopsticks
Can you eat with chopsticks
Doctor told us
Be intell eat by using chopsticks
Lots of people use chopsticks
So try eat your chopsticks
Right Now"

No, actually it wasn't "e.e. cummings", but I think he would be proud of whoever it was that wrote that.

| Seems like all cameras should be called digital cameras, since you operate them with your fingers. Anyways, this digital camera I got just started working right. I don't know why it wouldn't take any pictures before that weren't in the daylight (strange, isn't it?) but it took the profile pic I just posted. I'll put up a different one soon because it looks like I'm frowning in it.
Not much has happened in the past (week?) of me not blogging. I really don't keep good track of this xanga anymore. I check up on friends every once in a while but that's about it. If I have important, humorous or just plain off the wall thoughts I sometimes write in it.
Between earning not enough money to live off of alone and calling the girlfriend , I haven't been doing much. I got to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert on Dec. 23 and actually caught a guitar pick the lead guitarist threw out into the audience ... but that's about it. Just kidding. IT WAS AWESOME!!!
| At least this is what I've thought up ...
Democrats:
Hillary Clinton: "This time, I get the interns." Barack Obama: "All the college babes think I'm awesome like a rock star." John Edwards: "Would it be considered 'shoring up my campaign base' if I waved a rebel flag and sang Dixie? maybe then they would listen to me about universal health care. Hillary, no! Don't bite! Bad dog!" Joe Biden: " ... " Al Gore: "Global warming. No, I'm not running! I'm not running!!!"
Republicans:
Mike Huckabee: "If there was only a catchy campaign slogan that echoed the past ... something to do with me being likable." Mitt Romney: "When Bush goes out, I'll be his replacement bulb." Rudy Giuliani: "I got pissed after 9/11 and dammit I haven't calmed down since!" Ron Paul: "www.GoogleYouTubeFacebookMySpace.com" John McCain: "Thanks for stopping. My campaign bus just ran out of gas. Can I bum a ride off you back to Phoenix? And while we're at it, let's talk about why we should stay in Iraq ... "
